About you
You are a seasoned DevOps Engineer who evaluates all of your work through the lens of user experience. You’ve successfully worked on infrastructure and development tooling for several different products but you also love to work directly on product features from time to time. You prioritize reliability and security.

What you'll work on
As our first DevOps engineer, you'll own our infrastructure and development tooling and take the lead on designing a resilient and scalable system. You will collaborate closely with the entire engineering team, who will work alongside you on a range of DevOps projects, including:
  • Enhancing systems to be scalable, automated and well-documented.
  • Improving security at all layers of the system, including VPC and firewalls.
  • Migrating production backend services such as MySQL, Redis + Elasticsearch, with minimal or no downtime.
  • Provisioning fast staging and CI environments.
  • Aggregating logs and providing tools for engineering to track down bugs.
  • Running and optimizing our email delivery infrastructure.

Our team is versatile, so you will be able to tackle a wide range of projects, including product feature work in our Rails app. We want DevOps to be a shared effort across the engineering team at Delighted – with you as the owner and leader.

Technical background
  • We run our infrastructure on AWS. You have managed and optimized AWS deployments at scale and you have expertise with AWS network security.
  • On the application tier, we run Ruby on Rails. You have experience building features for and managing large Ruby applications at scale.
  • On the database tier, we use AWS managed MySQL, Elasticsearch and Redis. You know how to operate these systems reliably at scale.
  • The glue between our front-end and back-end is HTTP, so you should have a solid understanding of this part of the stack including: cookies, caching, AJAX, cross-domain sharing, security issues, etc.
  • We write automated tests for all our code. You have expertise running reliable CI and staging environments for developers.
  • We send lots of emails. Experience with sending email at scale is a plus, including an understanding of authenticated email standards including DKIM, SPF and DMARC.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.

How to apply
If you’re interested, please send your resume with a link to your Github account and any products you’ve worked on recently of which you are particularly proud.
