July 2022 Ruby Programmer Salary Report
Matthew • August 9, 2022

Howdy, Friends! This is our inaugural Ruby Programmer salary report. If you're looking for info on Ruby salaries (and Ruby on Rails salaries), I hope you'll find this informative.
A bit on the methodology. We take a snapshot of the job postings that list salary data daily. From that data, we calculate the mean, median, and so on.
Please keep in mind that this Ruby salary data is for the United States and Canada. All salaries are stated in $USD.
Not all job postings on Rub Job Board include salary data (at this time.)
July 2022 median Ruby programmer salaries
In July 2022, the median Ruby salary was $115k to $160k. After a slight dip mid-month, Ruby salaries ended the month between $120k and $160k. So, things seem to be remaining flat.
Compared with 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survery
This is higher than the range we saw in the 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey. In our summary of that data, you can see that the median Ruby salary was coming in at around $90k. Again, the Stack Overflow data is worldwide, while the Ruby Job Board data is for the US and Canada only. So, it's unsurprising to see it tracking lower.
Going forward
I'm going to post this once a month. Future editions will probably contain some month-over-month comparisons and, ideally, some longer-term trends. I'm also hoping to provide some additional breakouts.
If you'd like to receive this info in your mailbox, you can sign up for our weekly newsletter, which contains this data plus other information relevant to your interests.
We also publish the Ruby Developer Salaries dashboard, which is updated daily.
If this post was helpful, I'd love to hear from you!
